Faculty Position
Summerfuel is seeking graduate students, faculty, secondary school teachers and professionals to teach small classes of motivated high school students. Ideal candidates should have extensive teaching experience, a zest for opening young minds to new fields of study, and a talent for teaching in an interactive classroom with a give-and-take pedagogical style.
The Summerfuel program at UMass-Amherst attracts students from all over the world. All Summerfuel students participate in two enrichment courses - one offered in the morning (9:15 am - 11:45 am) and a second in the afternoon (4:00 - 5:30 pm). Teaching a Summerfuel course is an excellent opportunity for professors, high school teachers, graduate students or professionals who enjoy working with young, curious students.
Class Description
This course is designed to teach students the principles of Social Media in order to give them a more clear understanding of how it is shaping the field of journalism. Together we will look at companies like Facebook, Twitter and Google to understand how they have spurred a rise in citizen journalism and forever changed the media landscape. Students will use social media tools to create a personal brand and focused content. They will be expected to post regularly and tweet to establish themselves as journalists in their chosen specialty area.
Course Schedule
Session 2 (July 14th - July 25th):Monday - Friday 4:00pm - 5:30pm

Salary
$50 - $60 per hour, dependent on experience

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
